Tuition fees
In the Joint Postgraduate Programme of Studies “History of Medicine and Biological Anthropology: Health, Disease and Natural Selection” tuition fees are set at the amount of two thousand four hundred euros (€2,400) for each study cycle. Postgraduate students are obliged to pay them, according to the regulations of the Postgraduate Studies Regulation. Their payment is made in two equal installments: upon initial registration at the Programme (October), and the second before the start of the 2nd semester (March). Tuition fees are paid to the Special Research Funds Account of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki A.U.Th. The delinquent payment of the financial obligations is sufficient due to non-awarding of the Diploma or deletion from the Programme. Depending on the needs, the Study Programme Committee may, before the annual announcement of the program, adjust the amount of the tuition fees, after a decision of the Senate of the Special Composition of the A.U.Th.
Exemption from the obligation to pay tuition fees
The right to free tuition due to financial or social criteria is granted to postgraduate students who meet the excellence criterion during the first cycle of studies, which corresponds at least to having a grade equal to or higher than seven and a half with an excellent ten (7.5/10). The more specific terms and conditions of the right to study for free in the Joint Postgraduate Programme of Studies “History of Medicine and Biological Anthropology: Health, Disease and Natural Selection” are described in the current legislation as well as in the decision of the Minister of Education and Religion. Exempted students should not exceed the percentage of thirty percent (30%) of the total number of students admitted to the Programme and it concerns participation in a single Postgraduate Programme of Studies in the country. If the beneficiaries exceed the above percentage, they are selected in order of ranking starting from those with the lowest income.
The application for exemption from tuition fees is submitted by the interested party to the Programme secretariat after the completion of the selection process of the students in the Programme. The Postgraduate Studies Regulations of the Program specify the necessary details for the successful completion of the process of claiming free tuition.
Scholarships
It is possible by decision of the Study Programme Committee and depending on the income of the Programme to grant scholarships to postgraduate students. Scholarships are awarded based on academic, objective criteria (such as academic performance based on previous semester grade point average) and must be entered into the approved Programme budget. The grant conditions, obligations and rights of the scholarship holders are determined by a decision of the Study Programme Committee. The scholarships to be provided may consist of an exemption from the whole (100%) or a part of the amount of each installment of the tuition fees. First Installment Waiver Scholarships are awarded on the basis of the order of admission of candidates, while Second Installment Waiver Scholarships are awarded based on the marks of postgraduate students in the first semester (provided they have passed all courses with the first examination) and compliance with their obligations set out in this Regulation. Scholars must provide a project, as indicated by the Curriculum Committee. In the event that a scholarship graduate student is not consistent with his obligations, the Committee will revoke and stop his scholarship.
Scholarships for postgraduate studies are also provided by other bodies, such as IKY, Ministry of Education, GGET, Community Programs, other public or private institutions and organizations. In the event that a graduate student has a scholarship or grant from another institution, he/she is not entitled to a scholarship from the Programme.
The A.U.Th. may grant up to two remunerative scholarships to postgraduate students with the obligation to support the educational process and provide auxiliary teaching work. The Programme determines the maximum amount of remunerative scholarship awarded per student, the maximum number of hours of their weekly employment and other details regarding the granting of the scholarships. Postgraduate students are informed following a relevant announcement from the Programme Secretariat.
