Candidate application evaluation process

S.P.C. sets up a committee of faculty members of the cooperating Schools, which consists of members of the S.P.C., and which is responsible for the evaluation of the candidates who submitted all the required supporting documents on time.

Candidates are evaluated in three phases:

  1. The first phase is preliminary. A necessary condition for qualification in the second phase is the submission of all required supporting documents, including the certification of knowledge of the English language by submitting a degree from those defined above.
  2. The evaluation criteria of the second phase and the corresponding maximum scores are:
    1. General degree grade, multiplied by a factor of two and a half (2.5), with a maximum of twenty-five (25) points.
    2. Degree relevance to the subject of the DPMS:
      1. Degree in the Department of Medicine, Dentistry, History and Ethnology, Biology, History and Archaeology, Social Anthropology, Greek Philology of a Greek University or an equivalent institution abroad (with DOATAP correspondence): ten (10) credits
      2. Degree from other HEI Departments: one (1) credit
    3. Previous research activity: from one (1) to five (5) credits.
    4. Possible professional experience: from one (1) to five (5) points.
    5. Other related qualifications (from one (1) to ten (10) credits.
    6. Degrees in foreign languages, other than English (from one (1) to five (5) points.
  3. The third phase includes an oral interview with a grading scale from zero (0) to ten (10). The grade of the oral interview is multiplied by a factor of two (2), i.e. the interview receives a maximum of twenty (20) points.

Personal interview

The interview process is carried out by the special committee of faculty members of the cooperating Departments, which is set up by decision of the SPC.

The SPC evaluates and shortlists the candidates in the first meeting based on the criteria of the second phase. It then forwards the relevant list of those shortlisted in the second phase to the Secretariat of the Programme, which invites the candidates to participate in the third phase.

Qualification process and final selection of candidates

The committee of faculty members for the selection of candidates, within (15) days of the application deadline, evaluates the applications according to the above (3) phases, following the following procedure:

  1. After determining that the candidates meet the conditions of the first phase, it evaluates and prequalifies the candidates based on the criteria of the second phase.
  2. Forwards the list of those shortlisted in the second phase to the Postgraduate Secretariat, which sends them an invitation to participate in the third phase on a specific date.
  3. After the end of the third phase, a ranking list of successful candidates is drawn up by the Committee.
  4. During the compilation of the list, however, for reasons of ensuring a seamless and balanced development of the interdisciplinary approaches of the Programme in both its main scientific branches, the ranking of candidates is done in such a way as to achieve participation in the Programme by one-third (1/3) at least of the number admitted by graduates of Bio-medical Schools and by at least one-third (1/3) by graduates of Schools of History, Ethnology, Social Anthropology or Archeology if there are of course as many candidates from each from these two categories.
  5. The list of successful candidates is subject to the final approval of the SPC.
  6. The successful candidates are informed by the Secretariat of the Programme and are invited to respond in writing within five (5) days, if they accept their inclusion in the postgraduate programme and its operating conditions. Failure to respond by a selected candidate within the above deadline is tantamount to refusal of acceptance. If there are refusals, the Programme Secretariat informs those immediately following in the evaluation order from the relevant success list.

In the event that admission positions remain vacant, they are filled until the prescribed percentage of admissions is exhausted (according to the terms of the notice), or by ranking, as successful, candidates in descending order of overall score if this is at least e.g. thirty (30) units, or with a supplementary announcement of vacancies.

The final list of successful candidates and any runners-up, after being validated by the Study Programme Committee, is posted on the Secretariat’s notice board and on the Schools’ website.

Objections to the results may be filed outside of five (5) working days from the notification of the results.

The registration of the successful candidates is carried out following a relevant announcement from the secretariat of the Programme within five (5) days, upon submission of any necessary supporting documents.

In the event that a candidate does not register within the prescribed period, it is taken as a refusal to accept the position and it will be filled with the next successful candidate.
